Museum of Work & Culture Receives Grant from State Senate

(WOONSOCKET, R.I.) – The Museum of Work & Culture, a division of the Rhode Island Historical Society, received on Thursday a $2,000 State Senate Grant sponsored by Senator Melissa Murray and Senator Roger Picard. The funds support the museum’s Woonsocket Proud Program, which engages 25 fifth-grade classes from the Woonsocket School District, totaling 360 students and 44 of their teachers and aides.

The program included a guided tour of the Museum for each class, followed by a suitcase activity. This activity invited students to become history detectives as they explored objects carried in suitcases by immigrant families. Eight museum docents and staff members led the tours and activities, taking the students on an interactive trip through the museum.
