SBA and Congressional Delegation to Host Rhode Island

Small Business Week Award Winners at Annual Breakfast

PROVIDENCE, RI– The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will be joined by three members of the Rhode Island congressional delegation in hosting the nine award-winning small business owners and advocates in Rhode Island as a kickoff event for National Small Business Week. Joining SBA District Director Catherine Marx, Regional Administrator Marlene Cintron, and Associate Administrator Daniel Krupnick in honoring the winners will be United States Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, Representative Gabe Amo, and Providence Mayor Brett Smiley.

 

Co-sponsored by Skills for Rhode Island’s Future, the breakfast provides the winners an opportunity to meet and spend time talking with the delegation before they are honored during formal remarks.

The judge in Donald Trump's criminal hush money trial says parties should be ready for closing arguments on Tuesday. Court adjourned for the week after Ex-Trump lawyer Michael Cohen wrapped up Thursday's testimony. Trump's defense team questioned Cohen's credibility, recounting his guilty pleas to tax-evasion and lying to Congress.        Almost 600-thousand people in Houston are out of power as severe weather hits the area. A Tornado Warning and a Severe Thunderstorm Warning are in effect for Harris County. Dozens of Texas counties are waiting out a high risk warning for flash flooding through Friday.        The Biden administration is moving forward with a proposal to reclassify marijuana from a schedule one to a schedule three drug. The Department of Justice issued a notice of proposed rulemaking Thursday to reclassify marijuana to a less restrictive category. The change reflects a major shift in cannabis policy across the country, as dozens of states over the last decade have legalized recreational marijuana.        Wall Street is closing with stocks lower. This comes as the Dow Jones Industrial Average surpassed 40-thousand points for the first time ever in today's session. At the closing bell, the Dow fell by 38 points to 39-869. The S&P 500 lost by eleven points to 52-97. The Nasdaq dropped 44 points to 16-698.       Airports around the nation are expected to be busier than ever this upcoming summer travel season. TSA officials expect a six to eight percent increase in air travel nationwide compared to last year's season. The TSA says there's a strong chance that on several days they may screen three million or more passengers in one day, which would be a record high.        The NBA Playoffs continue tonight with just one game. The Denver Nuggets will look to eliminate the Timberwolves in Minnesota in game six of their series. The Nuggets hold a three games to two lead.
