Woonsocket City Councilor Brian J. Thompson Announces Run for District 20 State Senate Seat

 

Woonsocket City Councilor Brian J. Thompson officially declares his candidacy for the Rhode Island State Senate District 20. With nearly two decades of residency in Woonsocket, Thompson is deeply rooted in the community and is passionate about representing the interests of all constituents in the district, including those in Cumberland and throughout Rhode Island.

 

Thompson's decision to run for State Senate was influenced by his close friend Senator Roger Picard, who recently announced his retirement from the Senate. Thompson conveyed his appreciation for Picard's many years of service and expressed his commitment to upholding Picard's legacy of prioritizing the needs of the community. "I am proud to announce my candidacy for State Senate District 20 and to continue the tradition of dedicated service set by Senator Picard," stated Thompson. "I am eager to be a strong voice for our community and will work tirelessly to address the pressing issues facing Woonsocket and Cumberland."

 

During his time on the Woonsocket City Council, Thompson has demonstrated a strong dedication to improving the quality of life for residents and a willingness to bring a strong voice to the important issues facing his constituents. He pledges to continue this commitment in his role as State Senator. There was no "hush money" paid to the women at the center of Donald Trump's New York trial, according to the lawyer who represented them. Keith Davidson was the lawyer for both playboy model Karen McDougal and adult film star Stormy Daniels. The prosecution claims a 130-thousand dollar payment to Daniels was part of a "hush-money" scheme to influence the 2016 election. On the stand, Davidson said "It wasn't a payoff. It wasn't hush money. It was consideration."       Pro-Palestinian protests continue to engulf college campuses today. Early this morning, Los Angeles police moved in to clear an encampment on UCLA's campus. Law enforcement officials said more than a hundred people were arrested. Meanwhile, Columbia University announced all classes and final exams will go remote for the rest of the school year after 300 people were arrested after overtaking an academic building on campus.       The body of a fifth construction worker who went missing during the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore has been found. The victim is identified as 49-year-old Miguel Angel Luna Gonzalez of Glen Burnie, Maryland. Salvage teams located a missing construction vehicle, and the body was recovered from inside of a red truck. One bridge worker remains missing.       The national average for a gallon of regular gas is up slightly from yesterday. Triple A reports it's at three-dollars-and-67-cents a gallon. California drivers continue to pay the most at the pump, with an average price of five-37 a gallon. Meanwhile, the lowest average price is found in Mississippi at three-12 a gallon.       Peloton's CEO is stepping down as the company cuts 400 jobs worldwide. The exercise bike giant went through a boom during the pandemic when people were stuck at home, but sales have dropped dramatically since then. It also plans to close retail showrooms and overhaul its international sales plan.       The NHL's Stanley Cup Playoffs continue tonight with just one game on the schedule. The Boston Bruins will head to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs for game six. Boston can advance to the second round with a win as they lead the series three-games-to-two.
