CROSSOVER TO EAST SIDE OF WASHINGTON BRIDGE TO SHIFT

As part of its ongoing project to reduce congestion and travel times and provide three lanes of travel in both directions of I-195 over the Washington Bridge, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will be shifting the crossover point for westbound traffic a half-mile closer to the Washington Bridge during the overnight hours Monday, April 8. The change will be complete before the morning commute on Tuesday, April 9. At this time, there will still be two lanes of travel westbound and eastbound.

Drivers will not need to adjust their route. They need to stay in their lanes through the new crossover to the eastbound side of I-195, following the reduced 40 mph speed limit. This change creates a work zone so RIDOT can continue construction necessary to fully implement the three-lane configuration later this month. The Department is on schedule to complete this work on or before April 22.

Other changes in preparation of the full three-lane configuration will precede the full implementation of this change. RIDOT will launch an informational ad campaign to prepare travelers. This work is weather dependent.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has signed a bill that repeals the state's near-total ban on abortion. Two Republicans joined with all Democrats in the state Senate Wednesday in voting to repeal the 1864 law that was upheld by the Arizona Supreme Court last month. It bans all abortions except in cases where it's necessary to save the mother's life.        The lawyer who represented the two women at the center of Donald Trump's New York trial says there was no "hush money." Keith Davidson was the lawyer for both playboy model Karen McDougal and adult film star Stormy Daniels. The prosecution claims a 130-thousand dollar payment to Daniels was part of a "hush-money" scheme to influence the 2016 election.        Pro-Palestinian protests are continuing at college campuses across the country today. Early this morning, Los Angeles police moved in to clear an encampment on UCLA's campus. Law enforcement officials said more than a hundred people were arrested.        The judge in the Bryan Kohberger case has ruled two upcoming hearings on evidence will be closed to the public. The defense argued the hearings should be open to the public, because some of the evidence has already been publicly released. Prosecutors argued the evidence is sealed and making it public could impact whether it's a fair trial.        The American Civil Liberties Union is filing a lawsuit against the city of Chicago. On Thursday, the ACLU filed a federal suit claiming Chicago is unprepared for protesters who will be in the city for the Democratic National Convention in August. The spokesan for the ACLU of Illinois told reporters the city hasn't created a "clear, transparent plan" on how they will handle demonstrators.        The NBA Playoffs feature two game sixes tonight. First, the Milwaukee Bucks will look to fight off elimination when they play the Indiana Pacers. Then, the New York Knicks will attempt to knock out the 76ers in Philadelphia.
