General Assembly Pending Legislation Support Clarification

Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt was perplexed to hear that Councilman James Cournoyer had taken to the airways to disseminate false information stating that the Mayor is not opposed to the so-called "perpetual contract" legislation currently pending in the Rhode Island General Assembly.

The legislation requires that the contractual provisions in expired collective bargaining agreements with teachers and municipal employees remain in place until a successor agreement is reached between the parties.

"Rather than acting as a statesman to create a healthy environment for accurately and truthfully conveying information to the residents of the City of Woonsocket, Councilman Cournoyer has once again chosen to spread political fiction over reality," said Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt.

The true and accurate fact is that the Mayor opposes the legislation and already had communicated to the Governor’s Office her opposition to the legislation well before the time within which Councilman Cournoyer reported his "fake news" relating to the Mayor’s official position.

The Mayor went on to say, "Despite having the opportunity, in a recent extended conversation with me on various other issues, to ask my position on the legislation, the Councilman has chosen to resort to his usual political shenanigans of spreading false rumors about my public policy positions. The residents of the City of Woonsocket are tired of such nonsense and so am I. I have an open-door policy and I encourage any resident of the City, including any Councilperson, to inquire as of my official position on any issue before putting words in my mouth."

Only a small number of college students have actually participated in pro-Palestinian campus protests. That's according to a Generation Lab survey reported by Axios. There was also four-inch hail falling in the storms that left significant damage to buildings and roads, but thankfully did not result in any deaths.        Robert F. Kennedy Junior says a worm ate part of his brain and died inside his head more than a decade ago. The New York Times reports the Independent presidential candidate revealed the worm problem during his 2012 divorce proceedings, noting he had begun to experience cognitive issues and memory loss. Kennedy thought he might have a brain tumor but it turned out to be a dead parasite inside his head.        People grieving the loss of a loved one are increasingly turning to AI to assist in the grieving process. SnapChat, Replika, ElevenLabs, HereAfter are just some of the companies that allow users to create avatars of deceased loved ones. Generative AI tools, which use algorithms to create new text, video, audio and code, can try to answer questions the way someone who died might have.        Popstar Taylor Swift's famous feud with music mogul Scooter Braun will be getting its very own docuseries. Discovery-Plus announced Tuesday that its series "vs" will take a deep dive into the infamous battle. Titled "Taylor Swift vs Scooter Braun: Bad Blood," the two hour-long episodes will explore how Braun acquired the rights to the singer's first six albums in 2019 to Swift's "Taylor's Version" re-recording projects.
